Dennis Wise directs Dancing in the Library: Rights, Radicals and Revolutions, a collection of short movement pieces performed by Columbia College Chicago students. The interdisciplinary show is thought-provoking, visually appealing and full of physical action.

Join us for this free show at 12:15 PM this Wednesday in Cindy Pritzker Auditorium at Harold Washington Library Center to see what rights college students are passionate about and what they find revolutionary.

Vibrant and innovative, DanceWorks Chicago is proud to share a diverse repertory featuring who is new and what is next in contemporary dance as well as showcase exciting work from established choreographers. Under the inspired leadership of Artistic Director Julie Nakagawa and CEO Andreas Böttcher, an exceptional family of six hand-picked dancers brings integrity, passion, and excellence to performances. DWC is dedicated to creating an environment conducive to nurturing experiences of significance for everyone from artist to audience. In honor of spring, the presentation will include a performance of German choreographer Christian Spuck’s duet Die Blume (The Flower) and conclude with an opportunity to connect with DWC’s uniquely-gifted dancers.

El Payo is a popular Rumba/Nuevo Flamenco-Fused group based in Chicago celebrating the release of their self-titled debut album. Their members hail from diverse ethnic backrounds including Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, Argentina, Italy and the United States. Their distinct sound is infused with elements of rock, salsa, ska, and reggae with unmistakable overtones of passionate raw energy that is flamenco. They have opened up for internationally known artists like Juan Carmona, Pitingo and Lila Downs.  In this program they will be collaborating with Flamenco dancer Chiara Mangiameli. Chiara will be performing to some tradition flamenco pieces, along with performing to original music by El Payo as well.
