America’s Facebook Generation Is Reading Strong
Taken from NPR:

In what may come as a pleasant surprise to people who fear the Facebook generation has given up on reading — or, at least, reading anything longer than 140 characters — a new report from the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project reveals the prominent role of books, libraries and technology in the lives of young readers, ages 16 to 29.
Kathryn Zickuhr, the study’s main author, joins NPR’s David Greene to discuss the results.

Does Facebook need a constitution?

Before answering, consider this: if it were a country, it would be the third largest nation on earth. With 850 million users, it actually eclipses the US population by 550 million! As any entity grows, so does the lack of privacy and protection.

These were the opening shots in last week’s national Fox & Friendsinterview (Facebook: Privacy and Your Rights) with Lori Andrews:

Author of the Alexandra Blake mystery novels and 14 nonfiction titles, Andrews is also the Director of the Institute of Science, Law and Technology at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. Through her work, Lori has become an internationally acclaimed legal pioneer in modern ethics and privacy. She joins CPL for a free discussion and signing next Wednesday, February 1 at 6 PM in Cindy Pritzker Auditorium (400 S State).

Andrews will be exploring her latest book, I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did: Social Networks and the Death of Privacy. Expect a shocking depiction of how the web is being used to violate our basic individual rights. She’ll also present her long-overdue Social Network Constitution, which extends our basic rights to this wild new frontier.

Really, how many things did you reveal about yourself online today? You’ll be surprised. More surprised, however, to find out where even the most unassuming information ends up. Thankfully, Lori will offer insight and present ways to protect the privacy of your digital self.

Quite simply — if you’ve used the internet today (something tells us you have), you can’t afford to miss this.

Seating is available on a first come, first served basis. Registration is not required.
