We posted on this CPL program last month - an open invite punctuated by the prospect that employment was growing harder to find across the Illinois.

This month, with recent word that the state’s unemployment rate has actually fallen, we find it only fitting to call a new round of attention to our Especially for Job Searchers series.
If you’re having a rough go at gig-hunting or just beginning your search, we’d love for you to join us this Thursday at our Greater Grand Crossing branch from 11:30 AM - 1 PM. We know, full well, that looking for work is among life’s less enviable experiences. The holidays can make it even harder. Sometimes, however, having the right resources is all it takes to kick-start a whole host of opportunity. Which is why we’ll explore, together and at no cost, Chicago Public Library’s extensive Especially for Job Searchers links.
Our state added 600 new jobs last month, marking the eighth month of gain in 2011. If these figures continue trending in a positive direction, there’s no better time to get yourself prepped, out there and in front of the right people.
This optimism isn’t relegated to just Illinois either; according to WBEZ, November’s jobless number improved in 43 states! We’re presently sitting on a national 8.6% unemployment rate. While the stat itself doesn’t sound overly uplifting, it’s the country’s lowest since March of 2009. Modestly encouraging signs for our nation’s overall job market.

As Woody Allen once said, 80% of success is just showing up. Hopefully you’ll consider showing up to Greater Grand this Thursday. Call 312.745.1608 to register and hold your free spot.
If hectic holidays have your hands tied this week, take a minute to check out our upcoming calendar of Especially for Job Searchers events.
Happy holidays (and happy hunting) from your team at CPL!
