The good news: More jobs are being created in Chicagoland. The bad: It’s not getting any easier to land one.
According to last week’s IDES report, 15,700 jobs have been added since October 2010. But you wouldn’t know it based on the area’s unemployment rate; the figure jumped to 9.7% last month from 8.8% a year earlier.
It’s not all doom and gloom for job seekers, however. Our unemployment rate was down a tick from 9.8 percent in September. And the DES also reported that Illinois has added 108,100 jobs since the start of last year.
More silver lining: CPL’s Job Searchers program is a useful ally in your hunt. If your search feels exhausted or you just can’t seem to find the right resources, join the Greater Grand Crossing Branch on Thursday from 11:30 AM - 1 PM as we explore the Chicago Public Library’s Especially for Job Searchers links.
Please call 312.745.1608 to register or visit the branch to sign-up.
